We are so excited about our rebranding as Windmere – a Christian Health community. Just as Holland Christian Home before it, Windmere offers our residents a comforting and vibrant place to call home, born from the joining of two like-minded organizations who have been neighbors for more than 100 years.
The History of Holland Christian Home
Holland Christian Home was founded in 1895 by Reverend Reinder D. Drukker, a minister to a growing community of older adults. Reverend Drukker recognized the increasing need for long-term care, housing, and support for the aging members of his community, and with the physical, financial, and spiritual support of community members and leaders, he built the original Holland Christian Home on Iowa Avenue in Paterson.
Holland Christian Home has consistently expanded over the years to accommodate and care for more older adults in need of a secure and engaging community to call home. By 1945, within the first 50 years since it was established, Holland Christian Home had housed approximately 350 residents. In 1960, the community moved to North Haledon, where it remains today.
Through the years, Holland Christian Home’s mission to provide dedicated care and cultivate a warm, home-like atmosphere that fosters companionship and well-being has aligned so closely with the mission of Christian Health. We knew it would be beneficial to both of our organizations to come together to preserve the core values of our missions as well as meet ever-evolving community needs.
Windmere: A New Beginning
In 2024, we are excited to introduce Holland Christian Home’s new name, Windmere. Christian Health leadership and the Windmere board of trustees felt the new name was a beautiful way to honor the community’s history and Dutch heritage while providing the opportunity to evolve and serve an even broader community.
Windmere is now one of eleven communities for older adults in the Christian Health continuum of care, which also includes Mountain View Skilled Nursing, located within Windmere on our North Haledon campus.
“Christian Health and Holland Christian Home have such a similar foundation and shared history as two faith-based organizations,” said Andrew Van Orden, PT, DPT, MBA, LNHA, Vice President and Administrator of Windmere. “Because Christian Health is a leader in the aging services field, by joining them, we will be able to do much more for our residents. With Windmere, we look forward to delivering a higher level of services and programming and having access to greater resources to increase the quality of our care and continue to serve the community for a long time to come.”
“We’re so impressed with the very friendly and welcoming atmosphere at Windmere and the lovely residents and team who are so committed to them,” said Doug Struyk, CPA, LNHA, CEO of Christian Health. “It’s so compatible with the environment we work hard to foster at Christian Health. We are really looking forward to building a larger community for older adults with the wonderful values and environment at Windmere.”

A Legacy You Can Trust
Christian Health has been proud to nurture health, healing, and wellness in northern New Jersey for more than 100 years. Throughout our history, we have honored the Christian values upon which we were founded and strive to always meet our residents’ needs.
As part of Christian Health, Windmere residents enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing they have priority access to our many levels of high-quality care if they need it.
“In senior living, there are multiple options available depending on your needs and interests,” said Doug. “Now, Windmere is part of our wide array of choices to meet the needs of older adults in our community. We are dedicated to expanding the depths of our services available to older adults, making them more accessible to a larger group of people, and providing the perfect place they can call home.”
The historic mutual values of Christian Health and the newly named Windmere as well as our shared reputation for quality and compassionate care will only help us to grow our legacy – the legacy that our community has grown to trust.
