Although the realities of COVID-19 have prevented an in-person celebration of the Windmere’s 125th anniversary, we are pleased to announce a special virtual celebration, as well as plans for a dinner in 2021.

A Virtual Time Capsule

In honor of our quasquicentennial, we have created a special website to celebrate the rich heritage of the Windmere community. Featuring an interactive timeline and media gallery spanning the 1890s through today, the site offers an opportunity for our friends and neighbors to share memories of their own.

Please take some time to go to 125.windmerenj.org. Search through our virtual time capsule of mementos and fun facts, including:

  • the original handwritten notes (in Dutch) from organizational meetings in 1895.
  • photos and booklets from the Home’s original location in Paterson, NJ.
  • formal recognitions from Congress, the White House, and Dutch royalty.

While you’re there, share a memory of your own in our guestbook and on social media using #hch125. Windmere is blessed with a rich history and a richer community. Let’s praise the Lord by sharing and remembering details from the past 125 years!

Looking Ahead to 2021

We invite you to join us next year on September 29, 2021, when we can once again celebrate together in person! The 126th Anniversary Dinner will bring the entire Windmere family together for an evening of celebration, reflection, food and fellowship. The dinner will feature Pastor Alistair Begg as keynote speaker.

Begg has been senior pastor of Parkside Church in Cleveland since 1983. He is nationally renowned for his radio and teaching ministry, Truth for Life, through which his sermons are made available across the United States free of charge. Begg is a Gospel Coalition Council Member, is the general editor of the CSB Spurgeon Study Bible, and has authored and co-authored several books. You can find many of his resources, including his sermons, at truthforlife.org.

Building the Next 125 Years

As we celebrate these past 125 years, will you join us in laying the foundation for next century and beyond?

We give thanks for so much more than an anniversary this year. COVID-19 is under control in the Home. Our new Mountain View Nursing Unit is fully operational, and the rest of our Spirit of Progress renovations are nearing completion.

While we give thanks, we recognize some of these blessings also present financial challenges. Your support helps the Home provide the best possible care to our residents, and we are grateful every day! The Home’s 125th Anniversary Celebration is a perfect opportunity to give a gift in memory or in honor of a loved one.

All proceeds from the 125th Anniversary Website will benefit the Home’s Spirit of Progress campaign. Currently in the fourth phase of construction, the Spirit of Progress building project is a four-year initiative to dramatically improve our facilities and personalized care.

To learn more, or to make a contribution, visit our Foundation page or contact the Foundation at (973) 427-4087, ext. 651 or by email at foundation@hchnj.org.

The generosity and faithfulness of the Windmere community has sustained our mission to love our aging neighbors as ourselves. That legacy of Christian love, inherited from our forefathers, sustains our efforts today as we proudly serve older Americans from many traditions and backgrounds.

We stand united by a mutual commitment to each other and to the vision first set forth 125 years ago.
